Los Medanos College - Ratcliff Architecture

The Los Medanos College was an exceptional building to photograph with its indoor/outdoor approach to architecture and utilization of passive cooling. Achieving LEED Gold Certification for its incorporation of multiple sustainable features and east/west solar orientation are but a few of its accolades.

For this particular shoot, we aimed to populate each unique space with people, so we enlisted models and coordinated with student schedules to capture the vibrant energy of the college campus. By tethering our computer, we meticulously arranged test tubes, anatomical models, and science books within the state-of- the-art labs, ensuring each item was perfectly placed. In the Commons Building, we thinned out and moved tables to highlight the true beauty of the space, showcasing it as a light-filled, multi-purpose area at the heart of the building. For variety, we even added a wig to one of our models.

To capture the full ambiance of the campus, we shot at different times of the day, highlighting the glowing light of the surrounding farmland as well as the interior spaces illuminated at night through the building's expansive windows. Certain classrooms were photographed twice, with furniture arranged in different setups to showcase their flexibility and dynamic learning environments. Additionally, the computer lab, featuring monitors that rise electronically from within each desk, demonstrated the advanced technology available to every student.
